Cold-hardy, partially self-pollinating Avocado tree?? Is it possible? I’m excited to find out. This Cold Hardy Avocado tree from fastgrowingtrees says that it can withstand temperatures as low as 20F and can be planted outside in zone 8-11. (I’m zone 8a) It can be planted as a patio tree and moved indoors during cold weather in zones 4-11. Ok, but sometimes my zone 8a temps drop below 20F. What then? Well, I have plans to use old school christmas lights, burlap and frost cloth to protect the tree on colder nights. I will keep you updated on how the tree handles this coming winter. Now what about the self-pollinating? Technically, the tree is partially self-fertile meaning I may get fruit from one tree, but having another pollinator tree nearby would be ideal.
